ACT NOW: Tell your Reps to keep the Honor Act in the NDAA

Brothers and Sisters,

Last month – after years of IAFF advocacy – the U.S. Senate passed the Honoring Our Fallen Heroes Act in the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA). The bipartisan legislation expands federal line-of-duty death benefits to families of fire fighters who die from occupational cancer.

But we need the U.S. House to keep the Honor Act in its final version of the NDAA.

House negotiations are rapidly coming to a close, and the current House bill excludes the Honor Act. Families should not face financial hardship after a cancer line-of-duty death.

Take action now:

💻 Email your representative via the IAFF Advocacy Center.

📞 Call the U.S. House switchboard at (202) 224-3121 and ask to be connected to your representative’s office. Suggested script:

“I’m [NAME], one of your constituents from [location] and an IAFF union member. Occupational cancer is the leading cause of death among fire fighters. Please ensure the Honor Act is included in the final NDAA to extend federal LODD benefits to families of fire fighters who die from occupational cancer.

🗣️ Share this alert with coworkers and ask them to do the same.

Together, we can deliver for the survivors of our fallen by making our voices heard today.

Be You. Be Strong. Be Fire Fighters.

Sincerely,
